Step 1: Brown the Butter & Crisp the Sage
In a NOOK saucepan over medium-low heat, add the butter. Let it melt and begin to brown this should take about 2 to 3 minutes. The butter will turn golden and smell nutty.
Halfway through browning, toss in the sage leaves. They’ll crisp up quickly. Once they do, remove them with a slotted turner and set them aside on a paper towel. Watch the butter closely to avoid burning it. Once browned, turn off the heat.
Step 2: Cook the Gnocchi
Meanwhile, cook your gnocchi in a casserole dish of salted boiling water, following package directions. It usually only takes a few minutes, you'll know they're done when they float to the surface. Drain them gently.
Step 3: Toss It All Together
Add the cooked gnocchi straight into the pan with the brown butter (heat still off). Gently toss to coat each soft dumpling in that glorious buttery goodness.
Step 4: Serve
Spoon the gnocchi into serving bowls, top generously with freshly grated parmesan cheese and finish with those crispy sage leaves.
This Brown Butter Sage Gnocchi is proof that comfort food doesn’t need to be complicated. It’s cosy, simple to pull together and full of flavour - the kind of dish that makes you feel like you’ve done something special, even on the most ordinary Tuesday.
